Objective: The shooter must demonstrate the ability to make combat effective hits on multiple targets while efficiently reloading the shotgun.
Targets: Three 8X12 inch steel plates and two speed poppers
Distance: Targets set at 12 yards (T1), 14 yards (T2 & T3) and 18 yards (T4 & T5).
Ammunition Required: 5 rounds of buckshot
Begin Exercise: The shooter will be 12 yards to the rear of the closest target. Combat load with 1 round, engage the safety and come to a muzzle depressed position. On the signal, engage T1 with 1 round. RELOAD with 2 rounds and knockdown T2 & T3. RELOAD with 2 more rounds and knockdown T4 & T5. End of exercise.
Scoring: This is a zero miss exercise! A first class shooter should be able to complete the drill with no misses in 17 seconds or less. Greater than 30 seconds is a no-go.
Variations: Could include incorporating the use of cover or loading rifled slugs on T3 & T4. Bowling pins to be used instead of steel!
